How much does it cost to see a psychologist in Queensland?
Psychologists in Queensland set their own fees. The current AAPi recommended fee for a standard 40–60 minute psychology consultation is $340, and practices may set fees below or above this depending on their service and costs. At Inner Good Psychology, a standard session is $220. With a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, Medicare refunds a set amount per session, which lowers what you pay out of pocket. There are also funded pathways, such as NDIS, Victim Assist Queensland or WorkCover Queensland, that may cover the cost when approved.
What a session costs
Because each practice sets its own fee, the price varies. At Inner Good Psychology, a standard session is $220. That's the full fee before any rebate, and if you're eligible for a Medicare rebate, the amount you actually pay is lower.
How the Medicare rebate works
With a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you can currently claim a rebate on up to 10 sessions in a calendar year. As of July 2026, the Medicare rebate is $101.55 per session with a registered psychologist. If your session is $220 and you claim the rebate, your out-of-pocket cost is approximately $118.45.
(Rebate figures change, usually each July, so it's worth confirming the current amount when you book. Update this line when the rates change.)
When cost is a concern
Cost can be a real barrier, and it is okay to ask questions before booking. We can talk through the funding and rebate options that may apply to your situation. If private practice is not a suitable option, we can also suggest other services or support options that may be more useful.
Funded pathways that may cover the cost
If your situation involves a work injury, disability plan, violent crime, or the National Redress Scheme, your sessions may be funded through WorkCover Queensland, NDIS, Victim Assist Queensland or the National Redress Scheme when approved. Each pathway has its own process, and we can talk through what may apply to your situation.
