What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured, phased and evidence-based psychological therapy.
It includes preparation and strengthening resources, as well as processing and integrating distressing experiences so they may feel less emotionally intense or disruptive in the present.
Bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, gentle tapping or sounds, may be used during both strengthening and processing. You don't need to talk about every detail, and you can pause, slow down or stop at any time.
Everyone's experience of EMDR is different, and no therapy can guarantee a particular result.
Why choose an intensive?
People choose an EMDR Intensive Block for different reasons, including:
Feeling stuck or frustrated with the pace of regular therapy
Wanting dedicated, focused time to work on one or two areas
Wanting a focused block of therapy rather than regular appointments over a longer period
Finding weekly appointments hard to fit around work, travel or caregiving
A preference for structured, time-limited support
There is no expectation that one approach is better than another. Individual Therapy and EMDR Intensive Blocks offer different ways of working, and some people use both.
Who this is for
EMDR Intensive Blocks are available for adults aged 18 years and over. They may suit people who:
Have a clear issue or goal they would like to focus on
Can set aside dedicated time for the intensive over a condensed timeframe
Prefer structured, time-limited support
You don't need a diagnosis, and you don't need to describe what you've been through as trauma to be welcome here.
An area of focus may relate to a motor vehicle accident, a difficult workplace experience, interpersonal conflict, a significant life event, or something spoken about before that still feels present.
When another approach may suit better
People seek support in different ways, and a closely-spaced, structured program may suit some circumstances more than others. Individual Therapy may be a more helpful place to start if you:
Would prefer more time between appointments
Would like to work across a broader range of experiences or concerns
Would prefer therapy to unfold more gradually over time
This is not a reflection of strength, readiness or worth. It simply means a different approach may be more helpful at this point in time. Readiness and suitability are always explored together before an intensive is booked.

How the program works
Each EMDR Intensive is carefully prepared, planned and paced around your needs, areas of focus, readiness and circumstances. There is time to ask questions throughout, with ongoing attention to safety, consent and pacing.
01
Free 15-minute call
A brief, no-pressure conversation to discuss what has brought you here, answer questions, and explore whether an EMDR Intensive Block may be helpful.
02
Assessment & Planning Session (50 minutes)
Time to understand what has brought you here, clarify areas of focus, identify the strengths and resources you already carry, and develop a plan together. Readiness and suitability for the intensive are explored together.
03
EMDR Intensive Block
Three 2-hour EMDR appointments delivered over a condensed timeframe shaped around your needs and areas of focus. Reflection and integration are part of the process, with time towards the end to consider what may be helpful next. Throughout the intensive, there is ongoing attention to safety and pacing.
Your free 15-minute call
The first step is a free 15-minute call. This is a brief conversation where we:
Talk about what has brought you here
Explore what you would like to focus on
Answer your questions about EMDR and the intensive format
Consider whether an Assessment & Planning Session may be a helpful next step
The call is not a therapy session. It is an opportunity to ask questions and make an informed decision, with no obligation to proceed.
Fees at a glance
The Assessment & Planning Session is booked and paid for separately. Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to access Medicare or private health rebates, or use approved third-party funding such as Victim Assist Queensland, WorkCover Queensland or other approved funding arrangements.
Common Questions
-
An intensive brings longer appointments closer together over a condensed timeframe, which allows for continuity and focus. Weekly therapy is spaced over time. Both are valid approaches.
-
No therapy can guarantee outcomes. An EMDR Intensive Block offers focused support with one or two areas of focus, and the work continues through integration and daily life. Some people find Individual Therapy helpful before, after or alongside an intensive.
-
Yes. EMDR Intensive Blocks are available in person in Townsville and via secure telehealth across Australia, where telehealth can be provided safely and effectively for your circumstances.
-
Towards the end of the Intensive Block, we consider what may be helpful next. This might include Individual Therapy, additional support, another focused block in the future, or no further therapy at this time.
Could this approach suit me?
The free 15-minute call and the Assessment & Planning Session provide an opportunity to ask questions, learn more about the process, consider your readiness, and explore together whether an EMDR Intensive Block may be suitable for your circumstances, needs and areas of focus.
